We are delighted to
introduce you to one of the most remarkable events Southwest Louisiana
has ever experienced, Gators On The Geaux.
The Lake Charles Symphony
enthusiastically embraced the concept of colorful sculptures in a public
art display. So, rising out
of the swamps came the gator - that quintessential Southwest Louisiana
symbol - as the perfect icon. Thus
was hatched the Gators On The Geaux project.
With the assistance of
the Arts & Humanities Council of Southwest Louisiana, talented artists
swung into action. Generously
supported by an equal number of sponsors, they have succeeded in bringing
colorful, funny, imaginative and beautiful gators to our streets.
Starting in the Fall of 2001, the smiles brought to the faces of residents
and visitors alike will be free.
But the good news
doesn’t stop there. This
project has helped to support the arts in our entire community.
This “outdoor museum”
now features 113 larger-than-life fiberglass alligators and is truly a
testament to the skill and creativity of our local artists.
It is also evidence of the wonderful things that can happen when
the private and public sector, businesses and artists work together in a
partnership.
So, to everyone who made
this incredible project possible, we extend our heartfelt thanks.
See ya later alligator
and enjoy gator huntin’ in Southwest Louisiana!
